The B.C. Chinese Music Ensemble
The B.C. Chinese Music Ensemble (the "BCCME") concentrates on the performance of Chinese music by the finest professional musicians and is an offshoot of the B.C. Chinese Music Association. The members of the BCCME are graduates of renowned music academies and are either experienced soloists or are leaders of national or provincial orchestras or troupes in China or North America.
The BCCME aims to interpret both the traditional Chinese repertoire and contemporary compositions with an ever-changing performance makeup. Operating with a very open attitude, the BCCME will promote and help further develop Chinese music in Canada.
The BCCME intends to perform on stages across Canada and, through both virtuoso performances and teaching, intends to broaden the space given to Chinese music in the pantheon of space afforded to different musical traditions in Canada.
This performance received funding support from the Canada Council for the Arts Program in both composition and rehearsal projects. The BCCME will perform the commissioned work "Gazing at the Deep Blue Sea" composed by Mr. Jin Zheng. The BCCME members participating in this particular performance consist of the following renowned soloists (and instruments):
Wen-Ying Chen (Guzheng) Gui-Lian Liu (Pipa)
Wo-Liu Pan (Percussion) Karen Wong (Sheng)
