SOUTHWEST ECHOES concert presents a unique blend of southwest China minority music composed by master composer  Mr. Cheng-Long Zhou  of the Shanghai who will visiting for the first time in Vancouver. This major retrospective of an important Chinese composer for Chinese traditional instrument orchestra includes nine orchestral works, for solo, soli and ensemble. It will be a unique opportunity to explore contemporary Chinese music.  All the compositions are Canadian premieres, chosen to please our favorite music lovers.

Accompanying  Mr. Zhou  to Vancouver  are  two Hulusi ( double stemmed  bamboo flute)  soloists : Ms. Huan-Yu Yang  and  Rong-Mei Chen  from Yunnan Province of China. They will perform solo of traditional Hulusi instruments, performing music especially composed for them by Mr. Zhou to be accompanied here by the over fifty piece BC Chinese Orchestra conducted by Mr. Rui-Shi Zhuo.  The BC Chinese Orchestra is the largest traditional music ensemble in Canada operating by the BC Chinese Music Association, the Chinese music association established over 16 years in North America.
