The Overseas Music Standard Grade Examination

 

To expand the culture of Chinese music, B.C. Chinese Music Association (BCCMA) , in collaboration with the Central Conservatory of Music of China (CCOM) , will host the 5th Overseas Chinese Instrumental Performance Grade Examinationon in Vancouver for Canada.

Participants will be tested by the CCOM compiled with the CCOM criteria material, and subsequently will be issued a Certificate of Accomplishment by the CCOM.  The aim of this collaboration is to raise the professional quality of Chinese music performance, and to encourage the local development of Chinese music in Canada. BC Ministry of Education has recognized from 2007/8 onward the examination result within the External Credential Program for the secondary school students. There were total of 271 contestants joint the 2009 exam in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal.

The Central Conservatory of Music of China is China's most senior musical institute offering accredited examinations to applicants.  The Standard Grade Examination Committee of the CCOM has the mandate of expanding musical education and its stylistic tradition, and it provides authoritative musical achievement level assessment for overseas Chinese instrumental musicians and students.

Subjects eligible for Practical examination ( 10 grades each ) are :

  • Erhu ( Chinese bowed fiddle )
  • Pipa ( Chinese plucked pear-shape lute )
  • Yangqin ( Chinese dulcimer )
  • Zheng ( Chinese plucked zither )
  • Dizi ( Chinese bamboo flute ), and
  • Zhongruan ( Chinese plucked long-necked lute ).

 

Timeline:  Submission Forms Acceptance 2011-4-1 Friday
  Submissions Deadline 2011-6-30 Thursday
  Verification of Registration 2011-7-29 Friday
  Mailing of Exam Permits 2011-9-15 Thursday
  Examination Dates 2011-10-26 Wednesday
